The Car Rally

On sunday I went to a rally. It was fantastic. The cars did a back fire. I loved the cars. I loved how loud they were.

Build your wild self

Room 9 are having a fun time using this website at the moment: www.buildyourwildself.com
You can turn yourself into lots of different kinds of animals - a bit like the Chameleon in Eric Carle's book The Very Mixed Up Chameleon. Have a try! It's lots of fun.

Author Study - Eric Carle

For the next 4 weeks Room 9 are going to be learning about Eric Carle. He is the author of lots of books such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We plan to read lots of his books, and even try to create some of our own artwork just like the art in his books.

Have a look at the video of The Very Hungry Caterpillar underneath this post!

Responsibility

Room 9 have been doing a lot of thinking about our Ashhurst School Values.
This week we have been focussing on showing the value of responsibility.

Here is a story Chalaya wrote about responsibility.
I am sitting up nicely and putting my hand up and listening to the teacher.
I am showing responsibility.

Look at JayJay and Abby. They have come in after morning tea and found a book to read. That's very responsible!

Homes

house_african_jup.jpg

We have been learning about different types of houses from around the world. We looked at this house from Africa and then talked about what we were wondering about when we were looking at the picture. Have a read of our wonderings below. Maybe you could tell us what you are wondering about.

Graham Braddock

Last week an artist named Graham Braddock came to visit Ashhurst School. Room 9 and the rest of the Ruahine team spent the afternoon with him, and he taught us how to draw people. We drew a boy riding on a skateboard with special sketching pencils. We are so proud of how well our pictures turned out!

Book Week

Room 9 have had a really exciting week. It is book week at Ashhurst School and lots of fun things have been happening. On Wednesday we dressed up as our favourite book characters, and then showed off our costumes to the rest of the school in a parade. There were some awesome costumes! Some of our favourite book characters were Captain Hook, Snow White, Willaby the Bumble Bee, Fancy Nancy and Mrs Wishy-Washy! On Thursday some of us bought our favourite book to school to share with our class. We all really enjoyed hearing our friends favourite stories. Check out our photos for some of our costumes!

Our Marae Trip

On Monday the 28th of February Room 9 went with their buddy class Room 6 to the Woodville Marae. We had a fantastic day! We enjoyed singing the songs E Toru Nga Mea and Tutira Mai that we had been practicing. We used flax to make fish and flowers, and we got to listen to heaps of interesting stories about the marae. Check out our slideshow to see some photos of our day.
